What’s Happening with Callisto?

On September 25, 2024, we made the heartbreaking announcement that — due to an unexpected funding crisis — Callisto would likely have to close it’s doors…unless there was a miracle. We have been moved and overwhelmed with the response. And, while we are continuing to hope (and fight) for that miracle, we also recognize that the uncertainty of our current situation creates a lot of confusion and stress, especially for survivors. So, we want to give you as much information as we can about what’s happening, what you can expect, and how you can help.

  • While nonprofit fundraising is known to be both challenging and volatile, the last several years have been uniquely difficult, both for nonprofits generally and Callisto specifically. A global pandemic, loss of our founder, and an upcoming election marked by extreme anxiety have all compromised our ability to create the funding pipeline needed to support our work. Additionally, the struggles society has understanding and talking about sexual assault, the revolutionary nature of our technology, and increasing restrictions associated with posting about these topics has made raising awareness (and funds) even harder. Our recent funding crisis has been the result of a “perfect storm." Each of these issues, on their own, would be difficult, together they were devastating.

  • We will need to secure $1 million to avoid being forced to close our doors. This will ensure that we have a year of operating costs, so we are able to continue developing a sustainable funding pipeline...instead of simply moving the cliff.

  • The $1 million in funding that we are seeking to avoid closing will provide a year of operational costs, which will give us the ability to develop a strategic plan, including strengthening the funding pipeline needed to sustain the organization for the long term. Otherwise, we would simply be moving the cliff and we will not do that.

  • If you have resources and/or connections:
Pease help us get the word out by sharing with your networks. If you are a funder who is or has loved a survivor, has known the pain of isolation and injustice, or simply feels outraged every time a news story breaks that yet another high-profile serial perpetrator has shattered lives for years or decades without consequence...consider becoming a hero! If you have the means to donate, please contact us directly at development@projectcallisto.org. You can also make a fully anonymous donation through Silent Donor.

If you have limited means and/or connections:
There are still countless ways to help! Learn about our innovative technology, talk to your loved ones, share on social media, tag us @Callisto & include #SaveCallisto, record a video about why this resource is important to you, reach out to journalists or influencers, write a blog or op ed, make a donation of any size, and/or share our fundraising page!

  • Absolutely! Your data and account remain completely secure. You can log in to your account and access/download your Incident Log by visiting callistovault.org.

  • As a result of our current funding crisis and uncertainty regarding Callisto's future, new accounts cannot be created at this time. However, that will change if/when we can secure the funding we need.

  • While our team continues to work around the clock to secure the funding we need, we recognize that the outcome is not fully within our control. If we are unable to secure funding, we will do everything in our power to find a partner organization who can take on the tech. If both are unsuccessful, we will have no other option than to dissolve the organization, which would require us to delete the data. If that happens, we will reach out to users directly and communicate a clear timeline for when they can download their Incident Logs, if they choose. Please know this is an absolute last resort and we will fight as long as possible to prevent that from happening.

  • We will contact users/survivors directly if: a) the technology is transferred to another organization or b) we are forced to shut it down entirely. If the latter happens, survivors will be given ample time to download their Incident Logs, if they choose.

  • We are doing our best to keep everyone as up to date as possible. The best way to get accurate and timely information is to sign up for our newsletter (below). We are also posting regular updates on social media, particularly Instagram and LinkedIn.

*Please avoid sharing updates from other sources, as rumors and misinformation run the risk of causing further harm to survivors.

*To discuss a donation, please contact us directly at development@projectcallisto.org.
