CALLISTO VAULT

  • Callisto Vault is a suite of tools that enable survivors of sexual violence to securely document an assault and/or match with others harmed by the same perpetrator, regardless of whether or not they choose to report. Our cutting-edge encryption technology protects and empowers survivors, while increasing the likelihood that repeated perpetrators will be detected and held accountable. Callisto Vault consists of two tools: the Matching System & the Incident Log. Survivors can use one or both.

  • All survivors in the U.S. and its territories with an active .edu email address can use Callisto Vault. This includes students, staff, and faculty.

  • Once a survivor has created their secure account in Callisto Vault, they can still access it and utilize both the Incident Log and Matching System, even after they are no longer at the school. However, since creating an account involves a verification email being sent to their .edu email, new accounts cannot be created once a survivor no longer has access to that email.

  • Our goal is to expand access to our tools to empower as many survivors as possible, including those outside academia.

  • Yes. Survivors can update information in the Incident Log or Matching System entries at any time.

MATCHING SYSTEM

  • No. The Incident Log and Matching System are completely separate. Survivors can utilize just one or both.

  • Survivors only need to provide: 1) the state the incident occurred, 2) a unique identifier of the perpetrator (i.e. social media handle, email, or phone number) and 3) contact info should a match occur.

  • No. All information in Callisto Vault is encrypted and the only people with access to entry information is the survivor who created the entry and - if there is a match - the Legal Options Counselor assigned to the case. The only way an offender would find out that they have been identified is if the survivor (or matched survivors) decided to pursue action against the perpetrator and referenced using Callisto’s Matching System.

  • No. As long as the survivor knows a unique identifier (i.e. social media handle, phone number, email) of the perpetrator, they can enter into Callisto’s Matching System. The perpetrator does not need to be a student or even be affiliated with the school.

  • No. If a survivor has access, they can enter into the Matching System regardless of when or where the assault took place.

  • No. Only survivors who have experienced the sexual harrassment or assault directly can enter into the Matching System.

  • Yes. Survivors can enter into Callisto’s Matching system whether or not they have filed a formal report or plan to in the future.

  • Yes. Survivors can enter into Callisto’s Matching System if they have experienced sexual harassment, attempted sexual assault, or completed sexual assault (including but not limited to rape).

  • When a survivor enters into Callisto’s Matching System, they will not immediately find out if there is a match. This is because each match must first be reviewed by a Legal Options Counselor. Once the match has been verified, each matched survivor will be contacted individually by a Legal Options Counselor.

INCIDENT LOG

  • No. The Incident Log can only be accessed by the survivor who created it. It is not a formal report. Survivors can choose to save it, where it is stored in an encrypted state or print it should they choose to report or pursue legal action in the future.

  • No. Survivors can answer as few or as many as they feel comfortable answering.
